Bienvenidos!

At Hilldale Spanish is our second language! All students, beginning in Kindergarten, learn to understand, speak, and write in Spanish.

 

Ms. Kitty leads our youngest students in Spanish through song, puppetry, movement, and vocabulary acquisition. Starting in Third Grade, with Sr. Cohen, students experience a new level of immersion in the language during class. Kindergarteners learn a great deal of vocabulary (from colors, to numbers, weather, and greetings), and Second Graders embark upon the world of conjugation and grammar. By the time they are upper school students, our Spanish speakers are translating, writing reports and dialogues, and creatively writing in Spanish.

The annual Spanish Market Day celebration occurs in early May. Here upper school students lead art and dance activities as well as serve food to the lower school students. All exchanges take place in Spanish, and the festival culminates with pinatas!
