Zobeida was born in Guatemala and came to the US just before turning five. The family moved a lot, living in New Jersey, Maryland and New York. Books became her solace and constant companions, the friend that could be brought along wherever the road took them. She went to Dartmouth College where, not surprisingly, she earned her B.A. in English Literature. While at Dartmouth, she volunteered teaching Art to children in underfunded schools, organized and ran playgroups for children with special needs and did respite work and skills training with autistic children.
After college, Zobeida first embarked on a career in Recruiting, which took her from New York, to London, and ultimately brought her to San Francisco. When her daughter started school, she found herself spending more and more time volunteering in the classroom, inspiring an overdue career change. After working as a Substitute Teacher in TK-8th grade for the last year, she is delighted to be joining the Hilldale community. She believes that school should be a joyful place where imagination and curiosity thrive, and aspires to drive that same feeling in her students.
Zobeida enjoys spending time with her daughter and their two very spoiled cats, Stella and Sam. She still loves to devour a good book, writes, draws and paints in her spare time and has been known to dabble in Improv. She also loves to travel, especially to Spain where the rest of her family ultimately settled down, and which she calls home despite the many miles.
